Brief History of Bridgewater.
The 33 square mile area that is now the Township of Bridgewater was originally bought from a tribe formerly living in the area. Chartered by The King George II of England in 1749, Bridgewater is a modern suburban community with a mix of residential and commercial uses. During the early years, Bridgewater used to be a farming town. Somerville & Raritan were once part of Bridgewater Township as well until they broke away a few years after the chartering.
Today Bridgewater is a diverse and thriving town with a mix of both rural and suburban lifestyle. Township is prime ground for many young and large businesses, including Sanofi-Aventis, J&J, MetLife & Phillips-Van Heusen. Bridgewater has been progressing rapidly from its rural roots and will continue to grow strong in the future.
